UPDATE: Shooting Suspect Arrested, Charged with Murder

Through their continued investigation, Major Crime Detectives developed probable cause to charge the shooting suspect, identified as 21-year-old William K. Baldwin, with Murder 2nd Degree.

At approximately 6:00 pm this evening, the U.S. Marshals Service Pacific Northwest Violent Offender Task Force (PNVOTF), Major Crimes Detectives, and a Sheriff’s Office K9 Unit located Baldwin in North Spokane and took him into custody without incident.  

Baldwin was transported and booked into the Spokane County Jail for Murder 2nd Degree with his bond set at $1,000,000.

UPDATE: Major Crime Detectives Investigating Fatal Shooting

Spokane County Sheriff’s Major Crime Detectives, Forensic Unit Personnel, and other Investigators remained at the scene until approximately 8:30 pm, collecting evidence, documenting the area, conducting interviews, and following up on leads.    

At the initial stage of this investigation, information indicates this incident started as a disagreement between individuals known to each other that quickly escalated, resulting in the victim being fatally shot.

The adult male detained yesterday evening was interviewed and subsequently released without being charged.

Detectives diligently continue to investigate what led up to this fatal shooting and who specifically was involved.  However, at this time, no arrests have been made.

Major Crime Detectives Investigating Fatal Shooting

Spokane County Sheriff’s Deputies and Major Crime Detectives responded to the scene of a fatal West Plains shooting. 

On April 21, 2025, at approximately 4:10 pm, Spokane County Deputies responded to reports of a shooting near W. Geiger Boulevard and S. Hayford Road.  The caller advised that a male had just shot another male and that two or three subjects (including the shooter) were leaving the area on foot.  

Deputies arrived within minutes and found the victim lying near the roadway and advised that he didn’t have a pulse.   They attempted CPR, but unfortunately, the victim was pronounced deceased at the scene.  

Deputies secured the crime scene, and a perimeter was quickly established.      

An adult subject was observed running through a field in the area.  He was contacted and detained (not arrested) pending the information learned during the ongoing investigation. 

No additional information is available at this time.  

This scene is active, and Hayford Road north of Geiger Boulevard is closed. Please avoid the area for several hours while this investigation continues.
