Deputies Recover Stolen Vehicle and Find a Loaded Pistol, with an Altered Serial Number, Inside
Spokane County Sheriff’s Deputies located a reported stolen vehicle after receiving an Automated License Plate Reader (ALPR) Alert. They detained the male driver and female passenger, both adults, before continuing their investigation. They confirmed the VIN matched the stolen vehicle report, and after speaking with the two detained occupants, the driver was arrested for Possession of a Stolen Vehicle. He was also charged with Illegally Carrying/Possessing a Firearm and Possession of a Firearm with an Altered Serial Number. The passenger was not arrested and released at the scene.
On May 20, 2025, at approximately 7:40 pm, Spokane County Sheriff’s Deputies began looking for a reported stolen gold 2007 GMC Envoy, northwest of W. Cascade Way and N. Division Street, after receiving an ALPR Stolen Vehicle Alert.
They located the SUV as it turned from a parking lot onto N. Country Homes Boulevard and then north on Whitehouse Street. After verifying the temporary license plate matched the stolen alert, and with additional Deputies assisting, they conducted a high-risk traffic stop on N. Normandie Lane, south of W. Holland Avenue.
The adult male driver, later identified as 20-year-old Devin A. Eiffert, and the adult female passenger followed commands and were safely detained.
After confirming the VIN matched the stolen report, Eiffert and the female were advised of their rights, and both agreed to answer questions. Both provided statements that conflicted with each other, but neither seemed surprised that the vehicle had been reported stolen. Deputies also obtained a copy of the Stevens County Sheriff’s Office report, where the registered owner reported it as being stolen.
Through their investigation, Deputies developed probable cause to charge Eiffert with Possession of a Stolen Motor Vehicle. Eiffert was advised he was arrested on this charge and for a confirmed, but unrelated, misdemeanor arrest warrant for Theft 3rd Degree.
Deputies located a loaded revolver in the center console of the vehicle. After unloading it, Deputies observed tool marks where it appeared someone had attempted to alter/conceal the firearm’s serial number. When asked about the gun. Eiffert claimed he found it in an alley a few months ago.
Eiffert, who is 20 years old and not legally allowed to carry a pistol, was advised of his two additional charges.
The adult female passenger was released at the scene without being charged following the investigation.
Eiffert was transported and booked into the Spokane County Jail for Possession of a Stolen Motor Vehicle, Illegally Carrying/Possessing a Firearm, Possessing a Firearm with an Altered Serial Number, and his misdemeanor Theft 3rd Degree warrant.
