Sheriff Nowels Welcomes Three New Deputies
On April 22, 2025, Spokane County Sheriff John Nowels swore in three new Deputies, two Entry Level Deputies and one Intermediate Lateral Deputy at the Spokane County Sheriff’s Regional Training Center. Please help us welcome Deputy Brandon Miller, Deputy Tyler Shogren, and Deputy Taylor Southam to the Spokane County Sheriff’s Office.
Deputy Brandon Miller is 26, was born in Tacoma, Washington, and raised in the Gig Harbor area, where he graduated from Peninsula High School in 2017. He attended Washington State University, earning a Bachelor of Arts in Accounting in 2021 and a Master’s Degree in Accounting from the University of Idaho in 2022. He began his law enforcement career with the Spokane Police Department in 2024 and later took a Records Specialist position until he joined our agency as an Intermediate Lateral Deputy.
Deputy Tyler Shogren is 22 and was born and raised in Spokane, where he attended Shadle Park High School from 2017-2021. Before joining the Sheriff’s Office as an Entry Level Deputy, he was previously employed in construction, most recently as a custom cabinet installer.
Deputy Taylor Southam is 21 and was born and raised in Richland, WA, where she graduated from Richland High School. She continued her education, attending the University of Idaho, and earning a Bachelor of Arts in Criminology and Sociology. She began her law enforcement career as a volunteer cadet with the Moscow Police Department and recently worked at the Whitcom Communications Center in Pullman, WA, before joining our agency as an Entry Level Deputy.
