Petzold named ORNL’s Chief Financial Officer

Andrew Petzold has been named Chief Financial Officer for UT-Battelle, LLC and Director of the Business Services Directorate for the Department of Energy’s Oak Ridge National Laboratory. 

Petzold brings nearly 20 years of experience in federal and contractor financial management.  

He is known for his steady approach, practical leadership and career-long experience supporting federal missions and national programs. Since joining ORNL in 2021 as director of BSD’s Business Operations Division, Petzold has focused on aligning financial strategy with the lab’s mission, reducing administrative complexity and improving how ORNL supports science and operations.  

Before coming to ORNL, Petzold held multiple leadership roles within DOE’s Naval Reactors Program, including assistant manager for business integration and field office CFO. He also served as a U.S. Navy Supply Corps officer and worked as a financial consultant. Across these roles, Andrew has focused on financial stewardship, operational effectiveness and delivering value to mission programs and the public.
