Two-Vehicle Fatal Crash on N. Idaho Road
Spokane County Sheriff’s Office Deputies and Traffic Unit Investigators responded to the scene of a fatal two-vehicle crash on N. Idaho Road, south of E. Trent. One driver was transported to the hospital, where he was pronounced deceased. The other driver involved and his juvenile passenger were not injured.
On April 25, 2025, at approximately 5:15 pm, Spokane County Sheriff’s Deputies and Liberty Lake Police Officers responded to a reported two-vehicle injury crash in the 6600 block of N. Idaho Road. Callers advised one driver had been ejected, and his vehicle was on fire. The driver was moved away from the burning vehicle by members of the public, and they had started CPR.
Deputies and LLPD Officers arrived, secured the scene, and began an investigation. Arriving Spokane Valley Firefighters extinguished the fire and took over lifesaving efforts.
Due to the severity of this crash, Traffic Unit Investigators responded to continue the investigation.
Initial information obtained from witnesses indicates an Infiniti was traveling north on N. Idaho Road with several vehicles following. The adult male Infiniti driver, with a juvenile passenger, slowed to make a left-hand turn, and the cars behind also slowed.
The adult male driver of the second vehicle involved, a 1955 Chevy, began passing all the slowing cars in the southbound lane of travel at a high rate of speed.
As the Infiniti began its left-hand turn, it collided with the fast-moving Chevy attempting to pass in the oncoming lane of travel, causing the Chevy driver to lose control and leave the roadway. The Chevy crashed into an embankment and tree head-on, rolled, and the driver was ejected.
The Infiniti driver remained at the scene and cooperated with Investigators. Neither he nor his juvenile passenger was physically injured. He did not show any signs of impairment.
Traffic Investigators continue their work to determine what led up to this fatal crash.
The Spokane Medical Examiner’s Office will release the deceased driver’s name, along with his cause and manner of death, when appropriate.
