Serious Injury Two Vehicle Crash on S. Cheney Spokane Road

Spokane County Sheriff’s Office Traffic Unit Investigators responded to the scene of a serious vehicle/motorcycle crash on S. Cheney Spokane Road, south of S. Sherman Road.   The rider of the motorcycle was transported to the hospital with possible life-threatening injuries.  The other driver remained at the scene and cooperated with investigators.

On April 27, 2025, at approximately 8:50 am, Spokane County Sheriff’s Deputies responded to a reported two-vehicle injury crash involving a motorcycle on S. Cheney Spokane Road, south of S. Sherman Road.

Deputies arrived and contacted the uninjured adult male driver of a pickup towing a small utility trailer.  They also learned the adult male rider of the motorcycle was receiving medical care before he was transported to the hospital with possible life-threatening injuries.

Due to the severity of this crash, Traffic Unit Investigators responded to the location to continue the investigation.

SIRT Team Volunteers responded to assist with traffic control and the closure of S. Cheney Spokane Road until approximately 12:15 pm when it was reopened.

Although this remains an ongoing investigation, initial information indicates that the pickup/trailer and the motorcycle were traveling south on S. Cheney Spokane Road.  When the pickup driver stopped to turn east (left), the motorcycle rider began to pass (in a passing zone) and crashed into the driver’s side of the pickup as it started a left-hand turn.

The driver of the pickup remained at the scene and cooperated with investigators, including field sobriety evaluations, and he showed no signs of impairment.   However, he was issued traffic citations for Driving while Suspended 3rd Degree, Driving w/o an Interlock Device as required, and No Proof of Insurance.  He was later released without additional charges.

At the time of the writing of this release, the motorcycle rider remains at the hospital in critical condition due to his potentially life-threatening injuries.

Traffic Investigators continue their work to determine what led up to and caused this serious injury crash, but at this time, neither impairment nor speed are believed to be factors.

No further information is available at this time.
