SCIU Burglary Investigation Leads to the Arrest of Two Convicted Felons and the Recovery of Stolen Property, Including Several Stolen Firearms
The Spokane County Sheriff’s Office SWAT Team assisted SCIU Detectives and Deputies in serving a search warrant at a residence in Medical Lake. SCIU obtained the search warrant as part of an ongoing burglary investigation where several firearms and additional property were stolen by suspects driving a U-Haul truck.
As a result of this continuing investigation, SCIU Detectives arrested two burglary suspects, both multi-time convicted felons. They also recovered the reported stolen firearms, along with additional property belonging to the victim.
On April 27, 2025, at approximately 4:10 pm, the burglary of a residence in the 23000 block of N. Crescent Road was reported. Responding Deputies found the home had been ransacked and a gun cabin/safe, said to have had several firearms inside, was broken into and now empty. They also learned from an alert neighbor that a suspicious U-Haul had been observed in the area.
Deputies and SCIU Detectives diligently worked to identify the suspect(s) and recover the victim’s stolen property.
Through the investigation, they identified a possible suspect as 30-year-old Bradley J. Luiten.
On April 29, 2025, SCIU Detectives provided information regarding the U-Haul and stolen firearms to Patrol Deputies and local law enforcement agencies. They also placed a Flock Automated License Plate Alert (ALPR) Alert for the U-Haul into the system.
Later that day, at approximately 5:20 pm, the U-Haul was located by a Liberty Lake Police Officer in the 1200 block of N. Liberty Lake Road after an ALPR Alert indicated it was in the area. An adult male (Luiten) and an adult female, identified as 31-year-old Sierra J. Sumerlin, were detained.
SCIU Detectives responded to the location and developed probable cause to arrest Luiten for Burglary 1st Degree, and the U-Haul was seized pending a search warrant. Sumerlin was arrested for non-related misdemeanor warrants.
Both Luiten and Sumerlin were transported and booked into the Spokane County Jail.
On April 30, 2025, at approximately 4:30 pm, the Spokane County Sheriff’s Office SWAT Team assisted Spokane County Investigative Unit (SCIU) Detectives in serving a search warrant at a residence in the 400 block of S. Washington Street, Medical Lake, as part of this ongoing investigation. SWAT Team members contacted another burglary suspect, identified by SCIU as 29-year-old Dominick W. Huey, and detained him.
Once clear, SCIU Detectives searched the residence and located some of the reported stolen firearms and additional property stolen during the burglary. They also recovered a few of the stolen firearms after obtaining a search warrant for the U-Haul driven by Luiten and seized on April 29, 2025.
Huey was transported and booked into the Spokane County Jail for a valid felony Washington State Department of Corrections Escape Community Custody warrant. (Original charge Identity 1st Degree)
As both Luiten and Huey are multi-time convicted felons, they are prohibited from legally possessing firearms. SCIU Detectives believe Luiten and Huey planned to sell the stolen firearms illegally, and the prompt recovery of these stolen weapons makes our community safer by preventing them from getting into the hands of criminals.
This investigation is ongoing; additional charges, including Unlawful Possession of Firearms, will be added, with further charges or arrests possible.
