Victim Awakes and Finds Herself Face to Face with Intruder

Deputies Conduct Search and Arrest, Burglary Suspect

Spokane Valley Deputies responded to a reported occupied residential burglary.  The victim reported an unknown male was inside her house and that the suspect fled on foot.  Deputies established a perimeter and began to search.  Soon after, Deputies responded to a second caller reporting an unknown male in her driveway and detained the male.  The burglary victim confirmed the male detained by Deputies was the suspect she found in her home.  The suspect, who appeared to be highly intoxicated, was provided medical treatment before being booked into jail.

On October 9, 2024, at around 12:35 am, Spokane Valley Deputies responded to a call reporting that an adult female victim had just found an unknown male inside her home near the intersection of N. Adams and E. Riverside Lane.

Deputies contacted the victim, who explained she was awoken by an unknown male voice outside her bedroom door. At first, she thought it might be her son (an older teen), but she didn’t recognize the voice.

The victim opened her bedroom door and came face-to-face with the unknown male suspect as he was exiting a guestroom located across the hall.  She screamed as the suspect raised his hand in front of her face before fleeing on foot.  She woke her son, telling him to call 911, while she barricaded the front door until Deputies arrived.  Deputies found the victim’s front door appeared to have been forced open.

Additional Spokane Valley Deputies, with Spokane County Deputies and Liberty Lake Police Officers assisting, established a perimeter and requested a K9 Unit to aid in the search.

At approximately 1:25 pm, another caller reported an unknown male, possibly being sought by law enforcement, was in her driveway.  Deputies promptly responded to the residence, near N. Adams Road and E. Alki Avenue, and observed a male matching the burglary suspect’s description.

The suspect was detained and identified as 22-year-old Autin M. Kelly.  Kelly, who appeared highly intoxicated, said he had been beaten up and made claims that he had been shot.  Deputies checked Kelly for injuries, finding scratches and marks on his face and legs, but did not observe any gunshot wounds.

Due to Kelly’s level of intoxication, erratic behavior, and claims of injury, medical personnel were requested.

The victim was transported to the scene where Kelly was detained, and she confirmed Kelly was the male suspect she observed inside her home.

After Kelly was medically cleared, he was transported and booked into the Spokane County Jail for Residential Burglary and Malicious Mischief 3rd Degree.
