Nude Male, in Crisis and Believed to be High on STA Bus, Violently Resists Arrest

Spokane County Sheriff’s Deputies responded to a disorderly call where an adult male was reportedly nude from the waist down and acting erratically on an STA bus. The suspect, sweating uncontrollably, appeared to be under the influence of an unknown substance and in crisis, refused to put his clothes on, exit the bus, or follow commands. He violently fought the Deputies’ efforts to take him into custody, and even after being restrained, he continued to resist. With symptoms of a possible excited delirium situation, medical personnel were called to assist. After being transported to the hospital and later medically cleared, he was booked into jail on several felony and misdemeanor charges. One Deputy received minor injuries during the incident.

On July 29, 2025, at approximately 9:35 am, Spokane County Sheriff’s Deputies responded to the Hastings Park and Ride, 12230 N Mayfair Road, for the report of an adult male who took his pants off, exposing his genitals, while on an STA bus.  The male refused to put his clothes back on and would not exit the bus.

The first Deputy arrived, and not knowing if innocent bus riders or employees were still onboard and in danger, he entered the open side door at the rear of the bus.  He noticed the bus was empty except for the suspect, later identified as 40-year-old David V. Wyman, who was standing at the front near the driver’s area.

Knowing additional units were close, he attempted to gain verbal cooperation and build a rapport with Wyman.  Unfortunately, Wyman was acting very erratically and stated there were rattlesnakes on the bus and they bit him.

The Deputy recognized Wyman’s erratic and paranoid behavior, excessive sweating, and apparent hallucinations as symptoms of possible excited delirium, which can be deadly due to a person’s unpredictable behavior and an uncontrolled increase in their body temperature.

With probable cause to arrest Wyman for Indecent Exposure and Unlawful Transit Conduct, the Deputy tried to coax Wyman into turning around while placing his hands behind his back so he could safely be detained.  He initially complied, but as the Deputy approached, Wyman turned to face him, balled his fists, and became noncompliant.  The Deputy tried to take control of Wyman’s arm, but he immediately tensed up and tried to pull his arm away.

Despite attempts to try to get Wyman to relax and stop resisting, he continued to pull away while uttering unintelligible words.  Suddenly, he dropped his leg back into a bladed stance and began to cock his left arm back.  Before the Deputy could be assaulted, he took control of Wyman’s upper body as he continued to struggle.  They exited the front door of the bus and fell to the ground, where Wyman continued to fight.

Additional Deputies arrived, and after a short struggle, Deputies placed him in handcuffs, but Wyman continued to fight, kick, and make statements about snakes.

Medical personnel arrived to assist.  With Wyman’s body temperature high and his continued overexertion, he was sedated, placed in additional restraints, and provided ice packs to help lower his overly high body temperature.

He was transported to the hospital for additional care and later medically cleared.  Deputies transported and booked him into the Spokane County Jail for Assault 3rd Degree, Resisting Arrest, two counts of Indecent Exposure, and Unlawful Transit Conduct.  They also forwarded this information to mental health professionals.

One Deputy received minor injuries, while others were exposed to blood or had their uniforms/equipment damaged.  Thankfully, no bus riders or employees were injured during this incident.
