Deputies Arrest Burglary Suspect After a Short Foot Pursuit
Suspect Also Linked to Earlier Vehicle Prowling and Theft

Spokane County Sheriff’s Office Deputies responded to a reported burglary that had just occurred at a residence near N. Country Homes Blvd. and W. Excell Drive.  Deputies quickly located a male matching the suspect’s description a short distance away and, after a brief foot pursuit, took him into custody.  During the follow-up investigation, they identified the suspect as a 17-year-old reported runaway.  They also linked the suspect to an earlier vehicle prowling and theft in the same area and recovered most of the victim’s property.

On June 8, 2025, at approximately 2:15 pm, Spokane County Sheriff’s Deputies responded to the report of a residential burglary near N. Country Homes Blvd. and W. Excell Drive.

The victim described the suspect, who had fled on foot.  The victim told Deputies that he was working in his yard and had his garage door open.   He observed a male (later determined to be the suspect) walking west on Excell and didn’t think much of it.

He walked to his backyard, and a short time afterward, he heard a noise coming from inside his garage.   When he walked back up front, he noticed the male suspect was inside his garage.  He asked him what he was doing, and the suspect replied, “Sorry, man.”

He explained three bicycles were moved from their normal positions and believed the suspect was attempting to steal one of his bikes before being caught.  He also stated that his neighbor was outside when this incident occurred and had chased after the suspect.

Within a couple of minutes, Deputies searching the area noticed a male matching the suspect’s description on the corner of Excell Drive and Country Homes Blvd.  It appeared the suspect was trying to break away from another male (later determined to be the victim’s neighbor).

Deputies stopped their fully marked patrol car, with emergency lights energized, and began chasing the suspect, who was now running north on Country Homes Blvd.  He looked right at the Deputies, ignored their commands to stop, and continued to run.  Deputies quickly closed the distance and took the suspect to the ground, where he was safely placed in handcuffs.

While waiting for medics to arrive to evaluate the suspect, who sustained a small scrape on his knee that was bleeding, he said, without being asked, that he shouldn’t have gone in there, but he thought it was his bike.

Deputies identified the suspect as a 17-year-old male juvenile who had been reported as a runaway.   As a juvenile, Deputies did not question the suspect in accordance with Washington State law.

While searching the suspect after his arrest, Deputies located several items in his pockets, including credit cards, car keys with a fob, and a garage door opener.  Deputies checked the name on the credit cards and learned a second victim had reported a vehicle prowling and theft earlier in the day.

They contacted victim 2, who lived mere blocks away from the garage burglary and the location where the suspect was taken into custody.  She explained that earlier in the day, she reported that her purse, which contained credit cards and other items, had been stolen from her vehicle while it was parked on the street in front of her home.  The victim explained that she had located some of her stolen items strewn about in Lynnwood Park.

A Deputy double-clicked the lock button on the key fob found in the suspect’s pocket, and victim 2’s car made an audible chirp.  The victim also identified several credit cards and other items recovered from the suspect.

After receiving minor medical attention, the suspect was transported and booked into the Spokane County Juvenile Detention Center for charges of Residential Burglary, Theft 3rd (attempted), Vehicle Prowling 2nd Degree, Theft 2nd Degree, and Obstructing Law Enforcement.
